Is It Normal To Experience No Appetite After A C-Section?

Hi Mama,

This is one of the issues that many moms complain about but people are not taking it seriously. Some women going through this phase ignore such issues, while some husbands or partners might not take such things seriously when the mother talks about having a loss of appetite.

Many moms experience loss of appetite after their c-section. It can last up to only a few days for some mothers, and for some, it can go up to a few weeks postpartum. Even on online forums, there are many women who just had their c-section and are asking whether experiencing a loss of appetite after a c-section is normal or not.

This can become a serious issue if you don’t pay proper attention to it. But here we are, with our eyes and ears completely open for you.

One thing I want to tell you is that you don’t have to feel that you’re alone in this or something’s specifically is wrong with you because of this. There are many moms out there who go through this ‘no appetite’ phase after a c-section and even after vaginal birth.

Is no appetite after a c-section normal?

A new mom is taking care of her newborn baby, overtired, and is not having a normal appetite.

The truth is- there can be many reasons why you have no or little appetite after your delivery, but the exact reason can only be diagnosed by your doctor.

Remember, you have gone through a lot of exhaustion and are tired after delivering a baby, be it a c-section or vaginal birth. The tension, anxiety, and pain of bringing your little one into this world can be overwhelming, which can lead you to have no liking towards food or no food that may seem appealing enough to you. You might even pass up on your favorite cheeseburger and chocolate shake.

Giving birth to a baby can wreak havoc on your hormones. Women only concentrate on themselves during their pregnancy and educate themselves about why certain things happen due to the changing hormones. Still, they tend to ignore the fact that after giving birth, your body goes through many changes and especially changes in your hormones. So, having a loss of appetite for a few days after giving birth can be due to a change in your hormones.

Another major reason for postpartum women having no appetite can be early signs of postpartum/postnatal depression. If this is accompanied by depression, excessive weight loss or weight gain in some women, extreme mood swings, loss of interest or pleasure in activities, feeling worthless, unwanted thoughts of harming oneself or the baby, lack of concentration, and such.

If you have the slightest doubt or if your partner thinks that something is definitely wrong or something has completely changed in your usual behavior after giving birth, then it’s best for you to make an appointment with your doctor and talk about how you’re feeling.

Remember that, as long as you don’t take care of yourself, you’ll never be able to take care of another tiny human being who’s completely depended on you. Extreme loss of appetite can lead to extreme weight loss and brain fog, and if you’re a breastfeeding mother, it can lead to a big dip in your milk supply.

Unless you don’t become healthy and have nutritious food, your body won’t be able to keep up the milk supply for your little one. Don’t ignore issues thinking it’s a silly matter or people will laugh it off; there are professionals out there who help you in all your needs.

So, dear mama, love and take care of yourself so that you can love and take care of your baby.
